“An Island of contrasts”
Our trip to Fogo, The Island of Fire, Cape Verde We took a day excursion from our base on the Island of Sal to visit the southernmost island of the Cape Verde archipeligo.   Fogo, about 1 hour by plane from Sal, is acompletely different experience, being one stratovolcano and extremely mountainous, this island has quite a diverse climate and many various microclimates: Along the coast Fogo has a moderate dry tropical climate; above 1,000 metres it has a cool highland subtropical steppe climate, so take a jumper! Coffee and wine among the main products produced on Fogo, with fishing being the main souce of income for many locals. The island is very poor and many islanders rely on money sent home by relatives working abroad.
